Peanuts

Peanuts (ピーナッツ) is a boat-dived wall site off Tanegashima in Kagoshima Prefecture, about 20 minutes by boat, with a maximum depth of 40 m. The dive follows a submerged rock that drops from 15 m to 40 m with drop-offs all around it, and the yellow encrusting growth covering the rock gives the site its name. Sea turtles, spotted eagle rays and sharks are the large animals, with wrought-iron butterflyfish, whip-coral gobies and dancing gobies at the small end and passing schools of fusiliers. Good buoyancy control and safety-stop skills are needed; advanced divers only, and the site was closed as of 2007.
