About this site
Peiman Cape (ペイマンケープ) is a boat dive at Shirahama on the Kii Peninsula in Wakayama, about seven minutes from the harbour, for intermediate divers and above with current at times. A large rock mass rises from the seabed at 23 m and at its edge is one of Shirahama's biggest arches, a tunnel about 4 m high and 15 m long. A wide crack in the floor of the arch is packed with spiny lobster, with grouper, cusk eels, squirrelfish and cardinalfish alongside, and at times sweepers fill the arch so densely the far end disappears. Outside the arch the rock wall continues with further clefts and hollows, and being outside Yuzaki Bay the visibility is comparatively stable.
