About this site
Oura Kaigan (大浦海岸) is a shore-entry site on Shikinejima in the Izu Islands, Tokyo. The bay bottom is sand with reefs scattered offshore giving varied scenery; maximum depth 20 m, average around 10–18 m, suitable from beginner level, with no current. Goatfish, anthias and round herring are common, banded houndsharks, Japanese wobbegongs and large rays appear offshore, and amberjack, angelfish, takabe, porcupinefish, anemone shrimps and spiny lobster are also seen; it is well suited to navigation training.
