About this site
The Wreck (沈船) is the signature site of the Shimogoto area of the Goto Islands around Fukue, Nagasaki Prefecture, a boat dive for intermediate divers and above. A cargo ship over 105 m long lies intact with propeller and rudder still in place, its top at 18 m and the bottom at 37 m, which keeps dives to around 30 minutes. Current is fierce on mid and spring tides, so it is dived only on neap tides. The hull acts as a reef: large longtooth grouper, groupers, coral trout and painted sweetlips around the keel, golden sweepers, cardinalfish, chicken grunt and opaleye in midwater with many cherry anthias, and yellowtail amberjack and amberjack attacking schools of silver-stripe round herring when the water is moving.
