About this site
Ushitsuki Iwa (牛着岩) is the signature site of Kumomi on the west coast of the Izu Peninsula, Shizuoka, a 2-minute boat ride from the harbour. It is a cave and swim-through site with countless route options, including a large split in the rock that lets blue light in and a vertical shaft known as the tateana that rises nearly 10 m straight up, with fish schooling at its exit; maximum depth 24 m, average around 15 m, from novice level, with current depending on the season. Amberjack, lionfish, spotted sea bass, boarfish, pinecone fish, flounder, striped beakfish, longtooth grouper, anemonefish, frogfish and seahorses are typical.
