About this site
The schoner Circassian stranded on White Shoal in a gale and blinding snowstorm in November 1860. The vessel was washed completely by waves and broke in the middle, forcing the crew to abaondon her and row to Hog Island, where they survived for two weeks before being spotted and rescued. This site is completely broken up, heavily salvaged for gear, and much timber was scavenged for furniture-making purposes. Lies in about 3.7 m; sank 1860.
