About this site
The large, four-masted schooner Richard Winslow was reduced to use as a tow barge when it was lost in September 1898. It was carrying iron ore from Escanaba in tow behind the steamer Inter Ocean when she began leaking, and the crew was taken off as the Winslow settled to the bottom off White Shoal. The remains were dynamited in 1902 to remove the obstruction. Wreckage is scattered and broken up. Lies in about 9.8 m; sank 1898.
