About this site
Ishibashi Beach (石橋ビーチ) is a shore-entry site at Ishibashi, Odawara, on the western side of Sagami Bay in Kanagawa, with a maximum depth of 20 m and an average around 10 m, suitable from beginner level with little current. The bottom is mainly boulders and sand, the entry is roped, and quarried stone blocks thought to date from the Edo period lie scattered underwater. Year-round life includes schools of cardinalfish and damselfish, blennies, frogfish and striped beakfish; winter brings lumpsuckers, many nudibranchs, Japanese bullhead sharks and whitetip reef sharks, summer bigfin reef squid spawning and lionfish, and autumn juvenile frogfish and schools of chicken grunt and silver-stripe round herring.
