Kasa Ne

Kasa Ne (カサ根) is a boat-dive site 5 minutes out from Usami, Ito, on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, with a maximum depth of 21 m and an average around 12 m, suitable from beginner level, with current at times. It is the middle of the three Usami boat sites and has the richest soft coral, with the most varied depth profile around the anemonefish rock; a huge orange soft coral and an orange sea fan mark the sand edge, and a hole at about 16 m on the rope often holds a Japanese bullhead shark or a longtooth grouper. Anemonefish are seen year-round, glasseyes, cardinalfish and anthias school quietly, green sea turtles come for the bigfin reef squid in a sandy pocket beyond, and in autumn yellowtail and amberjack hunt the schools; the two stacked triangular rocks of Kasa Ne itself lie 2–3 minutes north of the buoy.
