About this site
Usami Beach (宇佐美 ビーチ) is a shore-entry site in front of the dive centre at Usami, Ito, on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, with a maximum depth of 14 m and an average around 8 m, suitable from beginner level with no current, and with an entry slope, surface rope and underwater guide rope. The rope leads past colourful damselfish and wrasse, blenny rocks and many nudibranchs down to the sand, where a loop rope runs around the deeper area; lumpsuckers sit on the sponges near the 11 m cable crossing from March to May, and seahorses live on the sea fans. Japanese bullhead sharks, guitarfish, banded houndsharks and rays are the large residents, autumn brings a red barracuda tornado at around 10 m that draws yellowtail, and a field of about 100 concrete pipes shelters bullhead sharks, moray eels and scorpionfish.
