About this site
Umanose (ウマノセ) is a boat-dive site at Katsuura on the Boso Peninsula, Chiba, ten minutes from Nagairi harbour, with a maximum depth of 40 m and an average around 17 m. It has the densest fish life in the Katsuura area together with dramatic rock terrain, and is open only in winter. Current runs through the site and it closes when the flow is too fast; intermediate and above. Schools of yellowtail, yellowtail amberjack and amberjack, huge shoals of chicken grunt, horse mackerel, takabe and sardines, anthias, sakura anthias, longtooth grouper, sevenband grouper, Asian sheepshead wrasse and plenty of nudibranchs are typical.
