About this site
Shimura Beach (志村ビーチ) is a shore-entry site at Katsuura on the Boso Peninsula, Chiba, with a maximum depth of 15 m and an average around 6 m. Three reefs, west, east and offshore, sit off a wide shallow zone, which makes it a workable site for beginners, courses, introductory dives and snorkelling. Current at times; suitable from beginner level, though the offshore reef is closed to diving from May to 15 September. Neon damsels, stripey, seahorses, banded houndsharks, largescale blackfish, black sea bream, cardinalfish and many nudibranchs are typical.
