About this site
Kokuseki (コクセキ) is a boat-dived reef off Nango on the Nichinan coast of Miyazaki Prefecture, 10 minutes from harbour, with depths from 5 to 30 m. The main rock is thickly covered in colourful soft coral and holds damselfish, anthias, sweepers, schools of silver-stripe round herring, amberjack and angelfish from juvenile to adult, along with nudibranchs, shrimps and crabs. The deeper section opens into wide-angle scenery, and spotted eagle rays have been seen. Little current; suitable from beginner level.
