About this site
Tonbara (トンバラ) is an open-water boat site off Nango on the Nichinan coast of Miyazaki Prefecture, just under 20 minutes from harbour, with a maximum depth of 40 m. A large rocky ridge rises from near 40 m and takes the full run of the current, so schools of surgeonfish, largescale blackfish, chicken grunt and fusiliers stream past in succession. Spotted eagle rays are seen fairly often. Current runs at times, and the site is recommended for Advanced divers with 50 or more logged dives.
