About this site
Nakayama Dome (中山ドーム) is a boat-dived cave site off Tanegashima in Kagoshima Prefecture, about 25 minutes by boat, with a maximum depth of 25 m. The entrance is at 18 m and the dome-shaped cave runs about 15 m, packed with sweepers, while spiny lobster hide in every crevice of the rock. Schools of Japanese butterflyfish, painted sweetlips and yellowfin goatfish gather around the cave, and a whale shark has appeared at the north end of the site. Intermediate and above; the site was closed as of 2007.
