About this site
Oura Big Drop (大浦ビッグドロップ) is a fast-current wall dive on the south-west corner of Iojima, about 90 minutes by boat from Makurazaki harbour in Kagoshima Prefecture, with a maximum depth of 30 m and an average around 15 m, for intermediate divers and above. Columnar jointing, formed when lava cooled rapidly underwater, gives stepped terrain like underwater ruins, and the drop-off falls to 60 m. Fish life is dense, with schools of dogtooth tuna, surgeonfish, formations of spotted eagle rays and groupers over 1 m, making it Iojima's signature site.
