About this site
Higashi (ローソク岩の東) is a boat-dive site on the east side of the Rosoku-iwa sea stack off Yoichi on the Shakotan coast of Hokkaido, about five minutes from Yunai fishing harbour, with a maximum depth of 25 m and an average around 12 m. The water is about 10 m under the boat, and a stony bottom slopes gently eastward onto open sand that reaches around 25 m at its deepest. Beginner to intermediate level. Fat greenling, rockfish, gurnards, anglerfish, flatfish, sculpins, atka mackerel, giant Pacific octopus, yellowtail and filefish are typical.
