About this site
Sazae Ne (サザエ根) is a boat-dive site at Yatsu, Kawazu, on the east coast of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, with a maximum depth of 23 m and an average around 8–9 m, suitable from beginner level; there is little current on the bottom but the surface often runs, especially on spring tides. White sand and scattered boulders surround the rock, whose east side forms a drop-off, and the boat can anchor here, which suits first-time boat divers. Nudibranchs and lumpsuckers are plentiful in winter, and eagle rays and Japanese bullhead sharks are common in summer, with cardinalfish and anthias on the reef.
